The Kingsman franchise made a name for itself by hitting fans with some major (and shocking) character deaths in Kingsman: The Secret Service, so it's no surprise that the trend continues in Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Kingsman 2 actually brings a major character back to life (Colin Firth's Harry Hart), so it's only fair that it racks up even higher numbers than its predecessor, in terms of the characters it kills off.
So, Who Dies in Kingsman: The Golden Circle? Read on to find out, but be warned, there are MAJOR SPOILERS ahead!
Kingsmen & Friends
At the beginning of The Golden Circle, Eggsy is attacked by his Kingsman trainee rival Chralie Hesketh, who survived Valentine's exploding implants thanks to cybernetic parts form Poppy. Charlie uses his mechanical parts to hack the Kingsman database during his attack on Eggsy, learning all their secrets, so that Poppy can swiftly kill them all.
Among the victims of the Kingsman hit are Roxy Morton (Sophie Cookson), Eggsy's partner and fellow Kingsman graduate, who survived the first film; Arthur (Michael Gambon), the new head of Kingsman; as well as Eggsy's childhood friend Brandon, who was dog-sitting in Eggsy's apartment when Poppy strikes.prevnext
Mark Strong's Merlin makes an ultimate sacrifice in order to save his fellow Kingsman.
As Merlin, Eggsy, and Harry are infiltrating Poppy's drug cartel stronghold for a final battle, Eggsy accidentally steps on a land mine. Using an adhesive spray, Merlin buys enough time for Eggsy to step off the mine - but Merlin must take his place, or they will all die.
In his last moments, Merlin draws Poppy's goons to him by singing a a British rendition of "Country Road," and blows himself and the bad guys into itty bitty pieces.prevnext
As stated, Kingsman 2 brings back Eggsy's training days rival Charlie Hesketh (Edward Holcroft) as a half-cyborg henchman working for Poppy, and it's because of Charlie that the Kingsman are all but wiped out.
After tripping up Eggsy for most the sequel, Charlie is forced into a final showdown with his rival. It gets personal when earlier in the film, Eggsy tracks down Charlie (and a cure for Poppy's deadly virus) by getting frisky with Charlie's girlfriend, Clara (Poppy Delevingne), forcing Charlie to kill her for the betrayal.
The fight between the rivals is brutal, but in the end, Eggsy beats Charlie down (with one hand behind his back, no less), and after paying homage to all the fallen Kingsman, Eggsy snaps Charlie's traitor neck for good. "Goodnight bruv," indeed...prevnext
Julianne Moore's Poppy Adams is a delicious psycho villain with the manner of a 1950s suburban housewife. During the film we see her grind a henchman up to make cannibal burgers; wipe out the entire Kingsman organization with a button push; and sick her deadly robot dogs on anyone who upsets her Leave it to Beaver existence. That includes several henchmen who cross her and meet horrific ends, being chewed up as meat snacks for Poppy's robot dogs.
After the drug lord laces her narcotics with a deadly poison, the Kingsman and Statesman must work to obtain an antidote before millions of people die. When Eggsy and Harry finally corner Poppy, they infect her with an advanced form of her own poison, forcing her to disperse the cure worldwide if she wants to save herself.
It's all a ploy, though: Poppy releases the cure, but the advanced poison in her system kills her immediately afterward. Good riddance.prevnext
We don't learn much about the various Statesman agents in this film (that's coming in the threequel), but Pedro Pascal's Agent Whiskey gets a bit of dark backstory.
Whiskey became a Statesman after his lover suffered a violent death at the hands of junkies committing a robbery. Due to that trauma, Whiskey sees Poppy's attempt to hold the lives of drug users around the world hostage as fitting opportunity to correct the wrong that ruined his life.
While working with Eggsy and Harry, Whiskey ruins their attempt to steal a cure for Poppy's poison, and is shot in the face by Harry, who realizes Whiskey is a traitor. No one believes Harry at first, and when Whiskey is resurrected using Statesman's "Alpha Gel" cure (the same thing that brought Harry back), he ambushes Eggsy and Harry before they can release the cure to Poppy's poison.
In the ensuing fight with the Kingsman, the lasso-twirling Whiskey is overpowered and killed when Eggsy and Harry shove him into Poppy's meat grinder.
