2012 Harvey Awards

The 25th Annual Harvey Awards took place last night at the Baltimore Comic-Con. The Harvey Awards are named in honor of Harvey Kurtzman, who was a cartoonist, writer, and editor. While he did extensive work in the comics field, he is often best remembered as the founding editor of MAD magazine. One of the great things about The Harvey Awards is that the nominees and the winners are selected by the full body of comic book professionals. While there are a lot of comic book fan awards out there, the Harvey Awards hold a special place in the heart of many comic book professionals because the recognition comes from their peers. During this year's Harvey Awards, there was a very special moment as Kevin Brogan recognized the late Joe Kubert with Hero Initiative's Dick Giordano Humanitarian of The Year Award. John Romita Jr received the Hero Lifetime Achievement award from his father John Romita Sr. and Stan Lee (as tweeted in this photo from The Harvey Awards).

The big winners at the 2012 Harvey Awards appeared to be Daredevil, Batwoman, Hark! A Vagrant, Walt Simonson's The Mighty Thor Artist's Edition, and Jim Henson's A Tale Of Sand, as they each took home awards in more than one category.
