Earlier this month, Comicbook.com reported on DC Comics registering the trademark for Gotham, which we speculated could be a live action TV series set in the Batman universe. We also suspected that the TV series probably wouldn't actually feature Batman, since Warner Bros. had already announced new movie plans for Batman. Now, Deadline is confirming that there is indeed a Gotham TV series set in the Batman universe in the works. FOX has reportedly landed the deal to air the show after an intense bidding war. Gotham already has a series commitment from FOX, and the series will be produced by Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller. Gotham will explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous. The series will be set during a time when Gordon is still a detective and has not yet met Batman, who will not appear in the series. It will be interesting to see how the Gotham series ties into the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie.  It could help lay the groundwork for the introduction of Batman into the DC Cinematic Universe.
