Legends of Tomorrow: Five Questions Raised By the Trailer
There's no surprise that the showrunners behind Arrow and The Flash have left us guessing a little [...]
WHO ARE THE MEN IN BLACK?
This bastard child of Deathstroke and Darth Vader was kind of everywhere in the trailer. It's hard to tell if he's a one-of-a-kind or just one of Valdal Savage's expendables...but it seems to me that he's got a slightly upgraded version of what everyone else is wearing.
In any event, it seems as though he's a time-traveler, too, and that means he could possibly be an arch-nemesis for Rip Hunter.
Yeah, we have Vandal, but I kind of get the impression that the guy who runs the world doesn't have a ton of time for just one dude opposing him. Could this guy be the Black Beetle, as someone here at the site suggested? Seems like a farfetched, but not terrible, guess...!
WHO'S THAT IN THE WOODS?
Take a good look at Rip's body language here. He seems to be telling Heat Wave not to raise his weapon, in spite of the fact that they're clearly being watched.
I have to wonder whether that means this guy is a friend, not a foe.
So...who is he?
With the collar and shoulder pads, my guesses would be Monitor or '90s Parallax, but really the answer is probably simpler: it's probably future fashion from another of the Time Masters -- or maybe the big shoudler pad, cyborg arm version of Rip who used to be a Linear Man in the '90s?
HOW MUCH OF THE DCU IS FAIR GAME?
There are those who think they see a Booster Gold costume in the trailer (I've looked and my expert opinion is that those people are mistaken), and Rip Hunter name-drops "Men of Steel and Dark Knights."
So...how much of the DC Universe is actually open to the Legends of Tomorrow writers?
With alternate realities, it's easy enough for them to grab onto non-superhero versions of certain people, assuming there's no rules against using the biggest heroes' alter egos. We'll see how it pans out...!
WHO IS RIP ADDRESSING?
Are these the Time Masters? Are they a jury under Savage's control?
Whoever this is, it seems as though Rip is either on trial or making a presentation. It kind of reminds me of the Senate from the Star Wars prequels, the way everyone is seated in little boxes, but it could also be some kind of prison, given the bars, metal and maybe concrete.
Any guesses, readers?
WHOSE FUNERAL IS THIS?
This one is kind of interesting: Who's dead here?
There are some members of the team missing, but of course, we also know from the trailer that two of those guys -- Heat Wave and Captain Cold -- are going to be off on their own at some point, away from the rest of the team.
So are these teammates? Friends? New characters? A little of each?
Certainly the fact that they've hinted strongly that the whole team won't survive the first season ratchets up this particular mystery...!
