Nintendo has announced Miitomo, the company's first entry into the smartphone gaming market. The "Mii" refers to Nintendo's player avatars, while "tomo" is Japanese for "friend."
According to the Wall Street Journal, Miitomo is a social networking game that helps shy people break the ice and reveal things about themselves. Players who open up the game will be tasked with creating a Mii and answering some questions. They'll communicate with other Miis based on those answers.
The app will use Nintendo's new My Nintendo service, which the company is presenting as a way to bridge the console to smartphone gap.
The app will be free-to-play, with in-app purchases for additional content, and is expected to launch by March 2016. See some screenshots in the gallery below.
