There's a new viral video out for Prometheus this morning, and it's quite clever. Over at Mashable you can see the clip (embedded below) introducing the David robot, coming soon from the (fictional) Weyland Corporation. Played by Michael Fassbender, David serves as the butler/personal assistant/maintenance man to the crew of the Prometheus. The Weyland Corporation, previously seen in a ficticious TED talk by actor Guy Pearce, is the mostly-malevolent corporation from the Alien film franchise, to which Prometheus is rumored to be a prequel. Ridley Scott created both the Alien movies and Prometheus and has gone back and forth as to whether the new film is an official part of the franchise, which saw its last film produced in 2007 (and its last movie without Predator in it ten years before that). It also might shed some light on one of the film's backdoor sponsors, as the poster for the David robot prominently features a Verizon logo (in the spirit of how an ad for the iPhone might feature the logo of its carriers and says, "powered by..."). The ad, which runs in today's Wall Street Journal, directs fans to a Project Prometheus website, but with a little clicking around, you can find a Verizon FiOS-sponsored tour of the ship. Prometheus hits theaters on June 8.
