The last winter storm was called Thor, so geeks should be glad to know that there's a theme developing, as the current one making its way through the Northeastern United States is called Ultima.

Ultima (アルテマ, Arutema) is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series. It is almost always the most powerful spell in the game, hitting all enemies for non-elemental damage, often ignoring defense, Reflect and any other protection. In addition, with the exception of its debut appearance in Final Fantasy II, Ultima is considered to be Black Magic. Ultima usually manifests as an explosive sphere of blue or green energy consuming opponents.

Winter weather advisories have been posted for over 30 million in the Northeast, including the Philadelphia and New York City metro areas, according to Weather.com, in spite of the official start of spring tonight at 6:45 p.m. ET.

Luckily, this one won't be quite as oppressive as the reign of Thor; current projections expect Ultima to only be a real factor through tomorrow night.
