The Pokemon Company's creative design director was killed during a windstorm on Sunday afternoon. Local media outlet King 5 News reported that Eric Medalle, age 42, was killed when his SUV was struck by a falling tree outside of Seattle. His young daughter, who was also in the car, survived the accident and was transported to a local medical center with minor injuries. The Seattle Parks and Recreation department has called the incident a "freak accident" and stated there were no signs the tree was about to fall.
As creative design director for the Pokemon Company, Medalle has worked on every main Pokemon game dating back to Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver. He worked primarily on graphic design work and English Version artwork for the game, and is also credited with illustrations for several Pokemon TCG cards. Per Bulbapedia, Medalle also designed the logo for the Pokemon The Series:XY, the current anime series running on Cartoon Network, and has designed several logos for the trading card game.
Medalle is survived by his wife and two daughters.
