Rob Benedict will return this season to reprise his role as Chuck, the author of the Supernatural books (in-story) and a prophet, TVLine reports.

There's a good deal of speculation that Chuck might actually be God -- and the character himself has said that he's, if not the God then at least "a god. A cruel, cruel, capricious god."

Per the original report, details about the appearance are being kept secret, "but the current season's heavy focus on God's sister, The Darkness, suggests that the man believed to be The Creator may at last be showing up for a confrontation."

The character last appeared in "Fan Fiction," the show's 200th episode, last year. His first appearance was in Season Four's "The Monster At the End of This Book."

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, following episodes of Arrow.
