Sir Ian McKellen will be honored with a star in Wigan town centre, according to The Telegraph.

McKellen, who has been featured in the X-Men, Middle Earth and Doctor Who franchises, is about to star in Mister Holmes, a story about an aging Sherlock Holmes out to solve one last, distinctly personal mystery while struggling with losing his faculties.

McKellen, who lived in the town in the 1940s, said that Wigan "holds many special memories."

"I certainly wouldn't define myself as a northerner," he said. "I'm not even really sure what that means. I've lived in London for 50 years. I wasn't born here but I have spent most of my life here. So I don't make much of it to be honest. I'm just myself."

He and his family left Wigan in 1951.
