Carlos Valdes and Danielle Panabaker, two members of The Flash's S.T.A.R. Labs brain trust, are featured in a new behind-the-scenes spot for the series, discussing the explosion that gifted Barry Allen with super speed.

"The particle accelerator explosion has basically decimated the underground workings of S.T.A.R. Labs," said Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon in the series. "But not just on a physical level; also on an emotional and personal level."

"So much of their work has been lost and everything that they've been striving for is not important anymore because they've made this huge, catastrophic mistake," said Panabaker, who plays Caitlin Snow. "Really not a good situation, this particle accelerator explosion, but we got Barry out of it, so we'll see what happens."

Of course, it's worth mentioning that in the comics, the lightning bolt that hit Barry Allen wasn't so random, actually; after his death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Barry Allen merged with the speed force, losing his physical form and becoming a charge of electricity. Ultimately he himself was the lightning bolt that hit the chemicals and turned him into The Flash.

So...is all this bad fortune on Caitlin and Cisco's part...Barry's fault? That could actually be some interesting drama down the line.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry and John Wesley Shipp as his father alongside Valdes, Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin and Candice Patton as Joe and Iris West and Tom Cavanagh as S.T.A.R. Labs founder Harrison Wells. The series debuts on October 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
