With Hellblazer ending yesterday, Vertigo fans were on the lookout for some good news this week to help ease their transition to the New 52; well, the publisher may have provided some. Fans of The Unwritten have just learned that the critically acclaimed series by Mike Carey and Peter Gross will release an original graphic novel, titled The Unwritten: Tommy Taylor And The Ship That Sank Twice, in September. Carey and Gross will be joined by Kurt Huggins and Zelda Devon, with Yuko Shimizu for the cover. The series follows Tom Taylor, who was the inspiration for a series of hugely successful children's fantasy novels in the vein of Harry Potter, complete with the Messianic messages that make some of the hardcore fans a little intolerable to the real-life Tom. Here's the official description from Vertigo, via MTV Geek:

Exploring the Tommy Taylor novels in a visceral and direct way, this hardcover provides a great entry point for new readers and fans of classic literature. We pull back the curtain on how Tommy's father, Wilson Taylor, devised his subversive literary masterpiece and reveal the blueprint of how a father gives his son vast power in order to accomplish a wider scheme. Partly told through Wilson's harsh, intoxicating journal entries and juxtaposed with Tommy's swashbuckling deep sea adventures with his trusty companions Peter and Sue, the story is at once a prequel and a parallel story to the ongoing series.
