While he may not have been given an on-screen credit for The Wolverine, a film based in large part on a story he wrote, legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont will reportedly serve as a consultant on Bryan Singer's forthcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film is based on a storyline written by Claremont and drawn by his longtime Uncanny X-Men collaborator John Byrne. Despite having expressed some reservation about The Wolverine in a recent interview, the writer told MTV Geek that 20th Century Fox has asked him to come formally aboard Days of Future Past--something that should guarantee he'll get at least a few bucks out of the whole process, something that hasn't been guaranteed even to the comic book creators who are responsible for giving birth to the characters making hundreds of millions for movie studios in recent years. "I've been asked to kind of, maybe be around for a little consultation," Claremont said. "I won't have a lot of input at all, but it's nice that they asked." He added that he would have been excited to see how the film turned out, even if he hadn't been invited on board. "I'm looking forward to seeing it on screen," Claremont said. "It was fun to write, and fun to see what John Byrne and Terry Austin did, and now we get to see what it's like on the big screen. So it will be fun." The writer made a brief cameo in X-Men: The Last Stand, and told MTV that he hoped to have the same chance this time around--but with filming nearing a close, it seems it may be more difficult to make that happen.
