The film’s official synopsis is as follows:
“A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a ‘movie within the movie’ that no one has ever seen before.”
UP NEXT: New Rings Trailer Released
The original two American films had a heavy reliance upon VHS tapes, so now that the only people who use those are avid cinema collectors, Rings should introduce some interesting concepts about the spread of the supernatural footage.
Trailers have already teased that the footage will make its way onto the internet somehow, and if this opening sequence is any indication, the idea of dozens of people seeing it and having to pass it along will definitely take things up a notch from the previous films, which focused more on isolated incidents.
The film stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio.
