Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earned $155 million in its opening weekend. That breaks into the top 15 opening weekends in box office history.
And that isn’t even counting the international markets. Rogue One is opening in major regions including China and South Korea, which could place the film at $300 million globally.
This still pales in comparison to Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘s record-breaking box office take last year, but it is the third-best opening weekend box office of 2016. Only Captain America: Civil War ($179 million) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($166 million) did better in their first three days.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was produced with a budget of approximately $200 million, excluding marketing costs.
In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is written by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy, from a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta. The film star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is now playing in theaters.
