New Star Wars Fan Theory Claims Kylo Ren Is Not Han and Leia's Son

Although Star Wars fans were elated with the release of The Force Awakens, the film also marks a dark place for the franchise. It may have been the highest grossing Star Wars film of all time, but audiences will forever remember Episode VII for the death of beloved character Han Solo.

Kylo Ren, the main antagonist of the film, declared in the early minutes that he was the grandson of Darth Vader. Everything he did, including turning on Luke (whom he claimed was his uncle) during his training, was to finish the job Vader had started. This thirst for power turned Kylo to the dark side, and Han was charged by his former wife, Leia, with trying to show him the light once again.

During the climax of the film, Han and Kylo met on a bridge, and the old man tried to reason with Kylo, but his pleading fell on deaf ears. Instead, Kylo Ren pulled out his lightsaber, and killed Solo where he stood.

Just like in the original trilogy, a father was killed by his son - or so we thought.

In a new theory, Reddit user LemmyGhost points out that Kylo Ren may not be the son of Han and Leia at all, but rather a nephew, or distant relative.

This may seem like a shock, but the user has their reasoning:

"If you watch through The Force Awakens, never once is it specifically said that Kylo is Han and Leia's son.

"Han will say things such as 'We miss you' and Leia will say things such as 'Bring our son home'. I am fairly sure Kylo will end up being their nephew, [while] the son they speak of is a different character.

"Every single line is written in a veiled sort of way, so that later when their true son is revealed we can re-watch and see that this was never specifically said."

When you think about it, LemmyGhost has a point - for the most part.

Throughout much of the film, the terminology used to descirbe Kylo (or Ben) was suspicious. They never once said Kylo Ren was their son, specifically, but it was definitely implied.

The biggest case against this theory comes at the time of Han's death, when he confronts Kylo. Give it a watch below, and see what you think.

He clearly addresses Kylo as both Ben, and his son, even though he never points the words at him directly. Kylo is also pretty vague when speaking about Ben in the third person, but that the Sith have been known to drop the identities of their previous lives.
