In December of 2015, audiences around the world met a cavalcade of new characters in the Star Wars universe, thanks to The Force Awakens. Some of their backstories were pretty direct, while other characters' histories have been shrouded in mystery. One of the new characters that fans have had the most fun hypothesizing about is Supreme Leader Snoke, who directed both Kylo Ren and General Hux in their course of action. A new theory has emerged about Snoke's origins, positing one of the most interesting theories yet.

Over on Reddit, Darby_Piper presented the argument for how Snoke connects directly to Anakin.

In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine relays to Anakin the story of "Darth Plagueis the Wise," a Sith who became so powerful in the ways of the Force that he had the ability to prevent one's death.

The theory that Darby_Piper presents is that Plagueis gained so much control over life, he learned how to create a being of evil, that being Snoke. The connection to Anakin is that, in an attempt to balance the forces of good and evil, the Force created the existence of Anakin in Shmi Skywalker, so although not biologically related, Snoke and Anakin would be intrinsically linked to one another.

One question that this theory instantly brings to mind is, if Snoke was a being of pure evil, then why would he remain in hiding?

In the prequel trilogy, Count Dooku is a former apprentice of Darth Sidious, a.k.a. Palpatine, who Palpatine orders Anakin to murder in Revenge of the Sith. Seeing the lengths that Palpatine would go and how he'd even betray his own padawan, Snoke wouldn't have been in too big of a hurry to approach Palpatine and pose himself as a threatening power.

Once Anakin killed Palpatine at the end of Return of the Jedi, this would allow Snoke to step out of the shadows and make his move for galactic domination.

Snoke's connection to Anakin could also explain why he's so interesting in corrupting Kylo, as he's Anakin's grandson.

Do you think there could be any truth to this theory? Let us know what you think in the comments!
