Over the course of the original Star Wars trilogy, the lovable scoundrel known as Han Solo was constantly dodging the forces of a vile crime lord, culminating in an epic confrontation in the opening act of Return of the Jedi.

Jabba the Hutt looms like a specter over Han, driving a lot of his actions in the movies as he is swayed to help the fledgling Rebellion but must also look out for himself. Now it looks like we might get to see how that antagonistic relationship began in the Han Solo spinoff movie according to a rumor from That Hashtag Show.
Hosts Joe Deckelmeier and Jessica Heidenreich said screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan‘s script includes Jabba in a major factor, hinting that we might find out why those two don’t like each other very much.
According to the show, “he’ll be partially CG and partially animatronic puppet,” as opposed to just one or the other, like in the OT and the prequels. So that should bode well for Jabba’s appearance, given that the CG in 1999 was not nearly as good and the puppetry for such a large creature doesn’t quite hold up to today’s filmmaking standards.
Apparently Jabba is an integral part of the plot, so it’s not like new director Ron Howard can just work him out of the story this late in the game. Lucasfilm sources have said that much of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s footage is “usable” and that Howard will be putting his renowned finesse on the project to bring it up to the company’s high standard.
All in all, it sounds like a ‘no brainer’ that Jabba would be involved, and even though it might not pan out we are still excited to learn how the most vile gangster in the Outer Rim will influence Han Solo early career.
Han Solo releases in theaters on May 25, 2018.
