After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher last December, Star Wars fans have been wondering just how much time they have left seeing Princess Leia on the movie screen. It was immediately confirmed following Fisher’s death that the actress had completed her work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi; however, what would be done about Star Wars: Episode IX was still very unclear.

Just a week ago, Carrie’s brother, Todd Fisher, told reporters that the Star Wars filmmakers would feature Carrie as Leia in Episode IX with unused footage, and no CGI. However, we’re now hearing confirmation that Carrie Fisher’s Leia won’t be in Star Wars: Episode IX, at all!
THR pointed out a statement by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to ABC news that Todd Fisher was “confused,” and that “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine,” Kennedy said. “But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.”
It now begs the question: where will The Last Jedi leave Leia’s character? Will there be some symbolic send off like Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor got in the Fast and Furious films? Or will Leia actually die in story? And was that planned for? Or is it something the filmmakers have to add to the film because of Carrie Fisher’s death?
