Lucasfilm is beginning to hit their stride in the production of Star Wars films. After a few bumps in the road in their plan to hit annual release dates—their schedule shifted from the summer to December for the first three films on their production calendar—it seems like the company is well underway in its business of mining A Galaxy Far, Far Away.

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi hasn’t been released and the untitled Han Solo spinoff in the middle of production, word is that filming is set to begin for Episode IX this summer.
After pointing out a casting call in Feburary, Omega Underground has also found a listing on production site MyEntertainmentWorld which further hints toward filming in the UK starting in July.
The latest Star Wars film has yet to be subtitled but few details are known about Episode IX. Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow is set to direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Derek Connolly, based on a treatment from The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return, as well as Mark Hamill and series villain Adam Driver.
The untimely passing of Carrie Fisher also gave the production another setback as her role was expected to increase in the films following The Force Awakens. Fisher finished filming all of her scenes for the Last Jedi before her death.

With production rumored to begin in just a few short months, maybe Lucasfilm will get back to their originally planned schedule of releasing movies in May, just like the original Star Wars movie did 40 years ago. The untitled Han Solo movie is said to release in May, 2018, though that’s yet to be officially revealed.
Although it should be said that the holiday release date has worked well for both the Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which were top grossing films for their respective years.
We’ll find out more when cameras officially begin rolling on Star Wars: Episode IX.
The next film in the saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will hit theaters December 15.
