Actor Laura Dern is riding high off of her recent Emmy win and has now turned her attention to hyping fans up for the next Star Wars movie.

A few details have come out about Dern's new character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and she recently stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres Show to reveal a brand new photo of Admiral Amilyn Holdo.

Admiral Holdo been teased for a few months, and details of the character put her at odds with General Leia Organa over the direction of the Resistance. But Dern's comments made it seem like her role will be a bit more involved than with the politics and military strategies that have been hinted at.

"I did have the greatest experience of my life," said Dean. "I felt like I was 7 years old again."

She confirmed a funny story that the director has previously told, admitting that she's just like every other child who played Star Wars as a kid.

"Rian Johnson even keeps telling this really embarrassing story, our amazing director, about how when he got in the editing room and I do have weaponry in a scene - I have said that - he literally heard me making sounds," Dern said.

"Because I had only done it in my room in childhood, and on camera you hear me then going 'pew! pew pew!'" Dern said with a laugh. "It's so embarrassing but, you know, it's Star Wars! … But I was so excited to be there that I really did think I was at play."

Though they might butt heads in the new film, Dean spoke warmly of actor Carrie Fisher in her interview with Ellen.

"The amazing Carrie, who we all knew was just the most wildly forthright and incredible, authentic being, and taught us so much about that," Dern added.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi seems to be taking a deeper dive into the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order and how it impacts the galaxy. Fans should expect to learn a lot more about Admiral Holdo when the film premieres on December 15.
