Today, fans all over the country will buckle up for an intergalactic ride thanks to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The sci-fi blockbuster adds to Lucasfilm’s extensive canon and takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV. The story follows a group of Rebels who try to steal plans to the Imperial Death Star, but the Galactic Empire isn’t twiddling their thumbs during the ambush. Officer Orson Krennic is on their tail for one, but he is of little concern to the Rebellion at first. The renegades instead fear another pursuer, and he’s not a character the group wants to run into.

That’s right. Darth Vader is none too pleased with the Rebels, and he will do whatever it takes to prevent them from gaining access to the Death Star.

Of course, fans have seen Darth Vader prior to Rogue One. The Sith was one of the primary villains of the original Star Wars trilogy, and the prequels focused on Anakin Skywalker’s life before he turned to the dark side. Fans came to know Darth Vader by his nasally, baritone voice. So, thankfully, Rogue One was able to keep up the villain’s iconic vocals.

If you want to know who plays Darth Vader, then you need to know the names of three people. James Earl Jones reprised his voice acting gig for Darth Vader as he voiced the baddie. As for the character itself, two men were responsible for suiting up as Darth Vader. Daniel Naprous and Spencer Wilding were the actors underneath the hi-tech armor. The former is a stuntman who has appeared on Game of Thrones while the latter starred in Guardians of the Galaxy as a surly prison guard.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it’s the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core “Skywalker Saga” of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: “Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. In the film, resistance fighters embark on a daring mission to steal the Empire’s plans for the Death Star.
