Over the last few weeks, rumors have swirled around the Internet regarding Chandler Riggs’ possible exit from The Walking Dead. While Carl is a staple of the series, and of the comics, a cryptic Facebook post by Riggs’ father had fans thinking he could be exiting the show after the current season.

Riggs’ mother has since spoken out, saying that Chandler isn’t going anywhere. Even so, the fact that the actor announced his acceptance into college is worrisome for fans of his character.
After the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, in which Carl was a featured character, THR spoke with Riggs about his character. Towards the end of the interview, the site asked Riggs about his college plans, and if that world can co-exist with his work on The Walking Dead.
“You never know how it will go. I really do hope it works out because that would be really cool. I like to be in The Walking Dead and I like to play video games and just hang out with my friends and try to be as normal as possible so going to college would be another really cool, normal experience in my life. I want for it to work out.”
It’s understandable that Chandler wants to live a normal life, as many child actors do at some point. The interview asked the actor if there was a way for him to achieve both dreams, and Riggs was pretty confidant that it could work.
“Yes. Theoretically, I could take one or two classes on campus and maybe an online class. My professors would have to be willing to cooperate. It wouldn’t be easy but I think that could be possible.”
When asked if this was something he was working toward, Riggs said, “yes.”
After these questions however, Riggs put a question mark beside his future once again. When asked if he had a contract for season eight, Riggs simply replied, “I can’t answer that.”
