The TV spot teases an “epic” mid-season finale that will see every story and battle from the first half of the season come crashing together.
A twist at the end of 8×07 revealed Negan and the Saviors have escaped the Sanctuary โ where they’ve been confined since the season 8 opener, trapped inside by a horde of walkers unleashed by the Alexandria, Hilltop and Kingdom alliance โ and now that he’s free, Negan is following up on his promise to Eugene to dump a “storm of shit” on Rick Grimes.
The explosive promo sees Alexandria under attack, and Jerry โ personal protector and devoted follower of King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) โ can be spotted at 0:12 seconds into the brief teaser, on his knees and at the mercy of a Savior who looks determined to blow Jerry’s cobbler-loving brains out.
King Ezekiel also makes his return Sunday, after retreating into his quarters at the Kingdom and locking himself away โ the result of a major depression brought on by the devastating loss of nearly all of the Kingdom’s fighters as well as the death of his beloved pet tiger Shiva.
Only Ezekiel, Jerry and Carol (Melissa McBride) survived the encounter with the Saviors’ new weapon that massacred the Kingdom’s warriors โ a powerful .50 cal gun โ and losing Jerry, his most ardent subject, would further push Ezekiel into despondency.
Rescuing Jerry could be just what Ezekiel needs to pull him out of his funk. This newest teaser and the previously released preview hint at an all-hands-on-deck situation, and it’s likely not everyone is making it out alive.
