Along with all of the new faces coming to AMC’s The Walking Dead in show’s seventh season is some exploration of characters whom we have merely scratched the surface of. In prepartion for the most anticipated episode of the entire series airing this Sunday, ComicBook.com is taking a look at some of those characters all week long.

Today, we will take a closer look at the villainous Negan‘s right hand man: Simon.

Simon is played by Steven Ogg on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Having first been introduced in the Season 6 finale back in April, the man who ominously tells Rick today might be his “last day on Earth” might look familiar to you.

Ogg is best known for his work in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V. He played the unpredictable wildman Trevor Phillips. Currently, he is also starring on HBO’s Westworld as a sentient robot (with some serious facial hair).

Ogg’s character Simon, however, is one you’re probably not familiar with. Simon is not a character who ever existed in the comics, giving him something in common with Daryl, Sasha, Merle, and T-Dog.

So far, we know that Simon is Negan’s “right hand man.” It appears he holds a position of power amongst the Saviors. Every time Rick’s group encountered him, Simon was speaking for his band of savages. Not to mention, as the Saviors were seen tracking and beating a man in the woods prior to encountering Rick’s bunch, the other Saviors obeyed Simon’s orders.

Simon will likely be a combination of several roles from the comics which probably spells trouble for the character.

One of the potential candidates for Simon to be filling the role of is David. David serves as a loyal soldier in Negan’s army until he break one key role. After Holly (a character who has never been brought to television) is taken hostage by Negan’s group, David attempts to rape her back at the Sanctuary. Negan enters the room at just the right time to see all of this unfolding and questions David on why he would break his “no rape” policy. As David answers, Negan stabs him in the neck, killing him.

Given that Ogg is currently starring on HBO’s Westworld, it’s not unlikely that we will see his character killed off on The Walking Dead before too much development takes place.

The Walking Dead returns for its seventh season on October 23 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
