Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis has signed on for not one, not two, not three, but four Avatar movies as the lead actor.

Playing a significant role in Fear the Walking Dead‘s zombie apocalypse, fans of the AMC series are naturally wondering if the actor will be leaving in favor of Pandora.
While only time will tell with 100% accuracy, there are several reasons for either side of the argument over whether or not Cliff Curtis will continue to work on Fear the Walking Dead, while dedicating entire off-seasons to James Cameron’s next gigantic endeavors.
The Report Says…
The news of Curtis joining Avatar originally came from Deadline. The report outlines his involvement with the four films set for release in 2020 through 2025.ย
“Sources tell us that the Avatarย production will work aroundย Curtis’s production on Fear of the Walking Deadย ,” the report said. “On the AMC show, which returns June 4, the actor playsย Travis Manawa.”
This is a clear indication that Travis will survive beyond Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead and continue into the fourth season which it has already been renewed for. However, when Lorenzo Jamesย Henrieย (who played Travis’ son Chris on Fear)ย joined Agents of SHIELD,ย similar remarks were made claiming he would remain on the series. Before Season 2 came to an end, Chris was killed off of the series.
The Shake-Up
Fear the Walking Dead is already planning some major changes going forward.
Following Season 3, showrunner Dave Erickson will be departing the series with Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg stepping in to serve as co-showrunners. Furthermore, The Walking Dead‘sย showrunnerย Scott Gimple will be joining the series as an executive producer with the fourth season.
The changes offer the series an opportunity to really change things up as the common comments about the show are negative with some fans jumping in to argue on behalf of its improvement which came late in Season 2. Most of the compliments come from the show allowing Curtis’ Travis character to finally let loose and accept the harsh reality that is surviving the zombie apocalypse.
With the show never having one clear lead, removing the now fan-favorite character would offer an opportunity to build a “no one is safe” mantra like The Walking Dead had in its early seasons but also give fans a clear cut leader of the series.
On The Walking Dead side of things, Michonne actress Danaiย Guriraย joined Marvel Studios’ Black Panther film and filmed her role as Okoyeย in the off-season between Season 7 and Season 8. Depending on schedules and the story planned ahead, Curtis may or may not do the same.
