I gotta be honest. When I first heard Adult Swim had released the Season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty, I didn’t believe it for one second. Why? Because, it was April Fool’s Day. And I sure as shoot wasn’t going to fall for such a blatant and mean-spirited prank like that.

Oh… but I was wrong. Not only did Adult Swim upload the long-awaited episode to its site, it was streamed live on a loop for hours and hours, giving fans — like me — plenty of time realize it wasn’t a prank at all. And it was so worth it!
Within that 22-minute episode, we got to see how Rick escaped his alien prison, took down the Federation by turning a 1 into a 0, destroyed the Citadel of Ricks by transporting smack dab in the middle of a Galactic Federal prison, separated Beth and Jerry, and rant about his passion for a discontinued McNugget dipping sauce.
A couple days after the premiere, Rick and Morty character designer Justin Noel posted several pieces of artwork he created for the episode. Head to our slideshow to view his designs for Jerry and Summer from the Cronenberg’d Dimension C-137, McDonald’s Szechuan dipping sauce that was offered for a limited time back in 1998 to promote the 1998 release of the Walt Disney Animation movie Mulan, and a series of images of a doomed insect-like alien creature.

Rick and Morty is Adult Swim‘s most scientifically accurate animated comedy. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, it catalogues the bizarre misadventures of a bored scientific genius/drunkard and his socially awkward grandson, Morty. Their exploits tend to have unintended consequences for Morty’s dysfunctional family, especially his unfailingly mediocre father, Jerry. Watch Rick and Morty battle everything from interdimensional customs agents to Cronenberg monsters.
The cast features Justin Roiland as both Rick Sanchez and his grandson, Morty; Sarah Chalke as Rick’s daughter, Beth; Chris Parnell as Rick’s son-in-law and Beth’s husband, Jerry; and Spencer Grammer as Rick’s granddaughter and Beth and Jerry’s daughter, Summer.
Cronenberg World Jerry And Summer
“Had the pleasure of working on Rick and Morty for the past year or so! Here’s some of the first characters I designed[: Hunger Games Summer] and [Ballsack] Jerry,” Noel wrote. “Hope those of you who saw the first episode enjoyed it! Color credit goes to the LOVELY Corey Booth.”
McDonald’s Szechuan Dipping Sauce
I hope the first thing that comes to mind when you see this image is that epic speech Rick gives to Morty at the end of the episode. “I’m not driven by avenging my dead family,” the mad scientist says to his petrified grandson. “That was fake. I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget Sauce. That’s my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine seasons, I want that McNugget Szechuan sauce.”
One Of The Many Season 3 Premiere Casualties
I believe this is one of the many unfortunate creatures that was killed during the massive battle that was caused when Rick transferred his consciousness into the Citadel of Ricks’ commander and then teleported the Citadel itself into the same space as the Federation prison.
