Gatiss was asked about his Game of Thrones role during an interview with Express.

“Yes, I did it in Belfast last year,” Gatiss says. “I can’t tell you anything more obviously, mostly because I don’t know anything.”

In addition, Gatiss also mentioned that he believes Tycho Nestoris will return for the final season of Game of Thrones as well.

“I honestly don’t know the ins and outs,” he said. “People ask me this, that and the other, I haven’t got a clue. I’ve done four episodes now and there’s two more they think. It’s a huge saga and I don’t know and I rather like that. But I’ve had a lovely time.”

Tycho Nestoris is a banker for the Iron Bank of Braavos in the world of Game of Thrones. Gatiss jokingly suggested to showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff that Tycho’s profession should increase his chances of surviving the fantasy saga.

“I made a pitch to be the last one alive because if anyone survives, it’s the banker, isn’t it? They smiled at me and then plotted my doom,” he said.

Nestoris, like most of the bankers who work for the Iron Bank of Braavos, is as politically savvy as he is fastidious about the debts of the bank’s clients. The Iron Bank of Braavos is the richest bank in the world of Westeros and Essos.

Historically, the Iron Bank has a reputation for funding kings and, should those kings default on their loans, the conquerors who dethrone them. The Iron Bank as been funding the Iron Throne since Robert Baratheon’s reign began. When the Lannisters took control, the crown continued to borrow from the Iron Bank.

As the War of Five Kings raged on, the Iron Bank agreed to give Stannis Baratheon a loan in the hopes that he would be more likely to provide a return on investment should he take the Iron Throne. That didn’t work out, but Tycho Nestoris’ return suggests the Iron Bank still has a role to play in the fate of Westeros. After all, as a common saying in Braavos goes, “The Iron Bank will have its due.”

Gatiss is also known as the co-showrunner and co-creator of Sherlock as well as for playing Mycroft Holmes on the show. He also writes for Doctor Who.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its seventh season on July 16, 2017.
