Welcome to the sleepy small town of Riverdale, where everyone has a musical talent and knows something about a teenager’s grisly murder. The parents are evil, the kids aren’t alright, and former heartthrobs are given a second chance at being television stars.

Over the course of eight episodes the show has taken the Twin Peaks formula and applied it to the classic CW teen drama. Every episode ends with a dramatic twist, shifting the paradigm on previously established relationships and events, putting them in an evolving light in the wake of Jason Blossom’s murder.
Everyone’s motives and alibis seem to be in constant flux as the core cast deals with the fallout of the crime. Betty and Jughead attempt to find the truth, Veronica tries to build a new life in the small town, and Archie– wellโฆ Archie is just kind of there, getting mad about stuff.
And soon he’s going to get a curveball of his own when his mom returns, played by Molly Ringwald.

KJ Apa, Luke Perry, Camila Mendes, Ashleigh Murray, Lili Reinhart, Mรคdchen Amick, Marisol Nichols, and Cole Sprouse attended WonderCon in Anaheim, CA, this weekend, joined by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa for a panel focusing on the show’s first season.
They aired a sizzle reel featuring a few new moments yet to be seen during the panel.
The clip featured the core fourโBetty, Veronica, Jughead, and Archieโsprinting through the snow. Whether they’re running toward or away from something remains to be seen.
The reel ends with the arrival of Mary Andrews, played by Ringwald, reuniting with Perry’s Fred and Apa’s Archie.
Ringwald will make her Riverdale debut on the April 13 episode, “Chapter 10: The Lost Weekend.,” shifting the show into high gear as it hurtles toward its first season finale. It has already been picked up for Season 2, so hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the Breakfast Club alum.
The synopsis for that episode reads as follows:
“TRUE FEELINGS โ GUEST STARRING MOLLY RINGWALD โ When Fred (Luke Perry) decides to finalize the divorce with Archie’s mother Mary (guest star Molly Ringwald), Archie (KJ Apa) hides his true feelings. Archie tries to win Valerie (guest star Hayley Law) back with a romantic evening, however Betty (Lili Reinhart) hijacks his plans when she decides to throw Jughead (Cole Sprouse) a surprise birthday party. Once Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) learns of the party, she decides to make it interesting and things quickly get out of control. Meanwhile, Veronica (Camila Mendes) contemplates whether she should participate in the deposition to help get her Dad released. Mรคdchen Amick and Marisol Nichols also star. Dawn Wilkinson directed the episode written by Britta Lundin & Brian E. Paterson.”
Riverdale’s next episode, “Chapter 9: Le Grande Illusion,” airs Thursday, April 6, at 9p EST on the CW.
