The Boys Finally Introduces Its Version of Thor (With a Twist)

The final season of The Boys is on the way, and it already has a lot on its plate. While most of the titular team is behind bars after Homelander weaponizes Vought’s superheroes, Billy Butcher and Starlight are still out there, searching for a way to bring down their enemies. With the deck stacked against them, Starlight makes a desperate move by reaching out to Marie Moreau, the former Guardian of Godolkin, who’s on the run from Vought and the higher-ups at the school in Gen V Season 2. The mission is to gather information on Project Odessa, which could be Homelander’s secret weapon.

The only way for Marie to make good on her promise is to go back to school and uncover whatever it is Vought is planning. Unfortunately, she can’t sneak around, meaning she has to once again embrace her role as one of the faces of God U. The new dean, Cipher, sees a lot of potential in Marie and wants to test her skills when she gets back, which puts her on a collision course with The Boys‘ version of Thor.

Vikor Hits as Hard as the God of Thunder in Gen V Season 2

Cipher reveals that his goal is to train all of God U’s best Supes to fight back against the impending human uprising. The best way to do that is to test how powerful they are already by pitting them against a dangerous foe, Vikor. A giant man wielding a hammer, Vikor makes quick work of most of Cipher’s class, only losing after Marie and Jordan Li team up to hit the button and end the session. It’s evident that Vikor is one of Vought’s most powerful creations, which shouldn’t be all that surprising, given the character that he’s based on.

In The Boys comics, Vikor’s flowing blonde hair and winged helmet make it clear that he’s Garth Ennis’ answer to Marvel Comics’ Thor, the Asgardian God of Thunder. Of course, the character can’t be part of Viking mythology because Vought is responsible for all of his powers, but he still embraces his Slavic roots. The comics give Vikor a vital role in the story, making him a member of the “Children of Stormfront” group. While that can’t happen in live-action, as Stormfront is long gone, another essential part of his comic book history could find its way into Gen V, if the show plays its cards right.

Vikor May Be More Important to Gen V Than He Appears

Vikor in The Boys comics.

Cipher is using Vikor as his hammer, someone who loves to dish out pain, but the comics paint a different picture of the Supe. Billy catches Vikor in a couple of compromising positions, and since the Vought employee doesn’t want his reputation tarnished, he goes along with whatever the leader of The Boys wants. Vikor becomes an informant, passing along information about Stormfront and other Supes to Billy. Unfortunately, aligning himself with a madman puts Vikor in an early grave, with the circumstances of his death being a mystery.

Sticking with Cipher keeps Vikor out of the line of fire, but Marie and her friends could use the hammer-wielding hero to get closer to the dean, who keeps his powers close to the vest. Cipher is the biggest wild card in Gen V Season 2, as it’s unlikely the good guys make any progress while he’s around. Well, their only solution may be to take The Boys‘ version of Thor and have him adopt the God of Mischief’s approach, scheming and backstabbing until the mission is complete.

Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
