Back in 2003, almost a year after the initial WWE Draft and brand split, General Manager Stephanie McMahon presented the United States Championship that would be exclusive to SmackDown! Months prior, she had created the WWE Tag Team Championship, which would be won by a tournament, same with the United States title. When the recent WWE Draft took place, Monday Night Raw was left without a top-tier championship, but not for long as Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon began a new title: The WWE Universal Championship.

SmackDown! Live is still without a Women's Championship as well as a tag team title, but that doesn't seem to worry General Manager Daniel Bryan who talked about adding championships to his show, but wanted to take his time introducing them.

"There's so much in the works right now," Bryan said on the Talking Smack aftershow on the WWE Network. "We're making sure that what we're doing is good. We don't want to just throw something out there." Bryan made a bit of fun of the "Universal Title" for being rushed into existence, and said that they're "building their division right now" on Smackdown before they want to think about any new titles.

Perhaps it would have been more beneficial for the company to have champions on both shows for numerous reasons. Introducing new titles can be polarizing as building a brand new prestige can be difficult at times. Also, with two top titles one has to wonder who is the company's actual top guy. Having Daniel take his time and figuring his roster out and what works best is definitely smart business, though.
