The topic du jour for WWE legend Ric Flair seems to be that of Goldberg, the former WCW champion and WWE superstar who last wrestled with the company 12 years ago. Odds are it probably won't stop anytime soon, even after their upcoming brawl at Survivors Series.

His latest opinions surfaced in an interview on Busted Open with Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca (via StillRealToUs). They revolved around the crowd's response to Goldberg in his recent appearances, which has been surprisingly positive.

"I'm not shocked by that all, Bill [Goldberg] was over. He was one of those characters they pounded into their minds for 3 or 4 years…I just texted Bill yesterday because I watched him on [ESPN] First Take, it's hard to take that much time off and then of all people to get in the ring with for the first time is Brock, oh my god, [laughs] there ain't nothing good about that! Bill's a big strong guy, but I don't think he's ever taken a German suplex."

There are a few points of interest in those comments. Flair feels that WWE has beat the crowd into submission with the Goldberg character's importance, but that isn't necessarily the main reason he is over. His few promos have been quite strong, and the crowd was presented with a far more humble and appreciative Goldberg than they were expecting.

That is perhaps the most compelling reason, but despite his previous run with WWE, he is still regarded as one of WCW's biggest triumphs, and the fact that he's talked so much about his distaste for the wrestling world's politics during his time off has intrigued fans right off the bat. They're eager to see if he can back it up with a strong performance in the ring.

As for Flair's comments about taking a german suplex lately, well, he's probably right, but as Goldberg recently described, just because he hasn't run the ropes lately doesn't mean he isn't preparing.

"As far as taking bumps and giving bumps, I've been taking bumps and I've been giving bumps," Goldberg said. "But they are of a completely different kind, so just because I'm not up on my hitting the ropes skills, don't mean that I don't bring something to the table that will far exceed expectations as far as violence is concerned, so that's what we do, man. And I'm just trying to, I've got to reinvent myself and I've got to figure out the right combination to bring into that ring."

Survivor Series will hit the WWE Network on November 20.
