As the news has begun to spread, retired and current wrestlers — including Hulk Hogan and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — have been paying tribute to Snuka via their social media accounts. I’ve gone around collecting as many as I could. Click on “Start Slideshow” (above/below) to check them out.

Personally, I grew up a huge fan of the WWF (before it was forced to rebrand itself as the WWE), and one of my favorite wrestlers was Snuka, so today’s news of his passing is quite sad. At the height of his career, there were hardly any acrobatic wrestlers of his ilk. He would beat his opponents with the highest high-flying assaults you ever saw. Seriously, nobody soared through the air with total abandon for his own safety like Snuka did. Plus, the colorful character and costume he presented in the ring made him easy to root for. Heck, I still remember crying like a baby — I was convinced wrestling was real — when Rowdy Roddy Piper smashed Snuka in the face with a coconut during Piper’s Pit.
