WWE Fans Celebrate “Stone Cold Day”

Happy Stone Cold day!

What is Stone Cold Day, you ask? Do not make me come through this computer and give you a Stunner! While most calendars have this day listed simply as March 16th, WWE fans know that today is 3/16, the day that we pay tribute to Stone Cold Steve Austin, the man who Vince McMahon once referred to as the WWE’s greatest superstar.

Stone Cold’s popularity in wrestling and mainstream culture skyrocketed after Austin defeated a suddenly religious Jake The Snake Roberts at the King of The Ring tournament in 1996. In a post-match interview with Freebird Michael Hayes, Austin coined the infamous phrase telling Roberts “Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16 Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass.”

The catchphrase caught on instantly and WWE soon had their new star during a time in which the company desperately needed one. You couldn’t go anywhere in the late 90s without seeing someone in an Austin 3:16 shirt.

Given on June 23rd, 1996, Austin’s infamous catch phrase is now just three months shy of being able to legally chug its own case of Steveweisers. So go out there and raise hell today, WWE fans; throw beers to your friends, drive a zamboni into your office, give your boss a Stone Cold Stunner!
