Having already signed on for a third Guardians installment, writer/director James Gunn is now teasing the soundtrack for Vol. 3.

“I have it down to 181 songs,” the director responded when I asked him the progress of the Vol. 3 soundtrack.

And although it’s currently at 181 songs, Gunn says the list “could get longer.” The whittling down of the soundtrack seems like it’ll be a major undertaking, the first soundtrack had a dozen songs while Awesome Mix. Vol. 2 includes 14 tracks.

While the soundtracks are a hot topic surrounding the movies in the Guardians franchise, Gunn went on to say in the same thread that music royalty rights only make about two percent of the movie’s total budget.
