Pokemon Go’s Halloween Event Rarity Revealed

Pokemon Go‘s Halloween Event is here, which means players have a full week to capture as many Ghost and Dark-Type Pokemon as they can for double candies.

One of the interesting surprises in this Halloween event is that the spawn rates for event Pokemon are totally different during the day and night. While plenty of Ghost-Type and Dark-Type Pokemon appear during the day, spawns increase by over 50% at night. It seems that Pokemon Go really wants players to enjoy the spooky Halloween season and get out for some nighttime catching.

In addition to the different spawn rates, some Pokemon appear more often during day or at night. So in order to breakdown the rarity tiers for the event, we need to breakdown the tiers by both times of day. So, if you’re looking to catch certain Pokemon during the Halloween event, here’s which ones are most common and which ones will be harder to find in the wild:

Daytime Rarity

Common: Shuppet, Duskull

Somewhat Uncommon: Cubone, Gastly, Houndour, Drowsee, Misdreavus, Zubat

Uncommon: Pikachu, Murkrow, Sableye

Rare: Hypno, Marowak, Haunter, Golbat, Houndoom

Super Rare: Gengar, Crobat

Nearly Impossible to Find: Banette, Dusclops

The big takeaway from the daytime tiers is that Sableye is definitely harder to find during the day than it is at night. However, there are a few Pokemon that do appear with more frequency during the day than at night. Misdreavus, Cubone, Gastly, Houndour, Houndoom, Pikachu, and Drowsee are all a bit easier to find during the daytime than at night.

Another note is that Banette and Dusclops barely spawn during the day at all. While a few players say they’ve seen these Pokemon appear during the day, they’re considered insanely rare and almost impossible to find. 

 

Nighttime Rarity

Common: Shuppet, Duskull

Somewhat Uncommon: Sableye

Uncommon: Misdreavus, Cubone, Gastly, Drowsee, Houndour, Zubat, Murkrow

Rare: Pikachu, Hypno, Marowak, Haunter, Golbat, Houndoom

Super Rare: Gengar, Crobat, Banette, Dusclops

Sableye becomes a lot easier to find at night, but a lot of the other more common Pokemon seemingly become a bit more rare. Misdreavus, Cubone, Gastly, and other Pokemon seen during the day get crowded out by the abundance of new Ghost-Type appearances in the evening. Pikachu also becomes a bit more rare in the evening, although that’s probably because it’s spooked out by all the ghosts running in the wild.

All of the “Gen 3” Ghost-Type spawn a lot more at night, as do the evolved forms of most of the Pokemon involved in the event. If you want to catch a Hypno, Marowak, or Gengar in the wild, your best bet is to go out during the wee hours of the morning to catch them.
