"In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces."
The new synopsis has some notable differences from the original one. Previously, it was said to be taking place "in the somewhat distant future," not the "near future." The relationship between Logan and Professor X is more prominent here, as well, and the synopsis is much tighter than the slightly wordy first one.
For those unaware, the word "legacy" is chosen very carefully here - the young girl in the Logan trailer is X-23, who is actually a clone of Logan himself. She's his literal legacy, as he tries to keep her from his figurative legacy of blood. That's not something he was able to do in the comics, but it looks like he'll be trying to do so in the movie.
This is the latest in the line of social media-driven PR for the film, as director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman have borne the brunt of the PR duties, posting images, quotes, and hints on twitter and instagram for the last several months. In addition, postcards each containing a single frame of the final Logan trailer were recently sent out to lucky fans who managed to register through the oft-crashing (due to demand) website, all leading up to the reveal of the trailer in the very near future. Fans are encouraged to post an image of their postcard with the hashtag #OneLastTime, meant to indicate Jackman's last run with Logan, and Logan's last run with heroics, so they can get a tease at what's coming.
