Fans may have to wait for 2019 for Nick Fury to return to the MCU.

Samuel L. Jackson confirmed to Yahoo Movies UK that despite previous expectations that he'd be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, the former director of SHIELD's next confirmed appearance won't be until Captain Marvel.

"I wasn't in the 'superhero argument' movie, I'm not in Avengers 3 and 4. They're shooting them now and they haven't called me yet," Jackson said, referring to the lack of Nick Fury in Captain America: Civil War.

Fury was last seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015 where the former SHILED director helped the Avengers during the Sokovia incident before going back underground before the events of Captain America: Civil War.

The news that Jackson won't be appearing in the upcoming Avengers films may be a surprise, but it was the exclusion from another Marvel film that seemed to bother the actor even more. According to the interview, Nick Fury won't be appearing in the upcoming Black Panther movie, either. The movie, taking place in the fictional African country of Wakanda and featuring a majority African or African-American cast, is the first MCU film to center around a black superhero.

"They wouldn't let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it's kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?" Jackson said.

For now, the only confirmed appearance of Jackson as Nick Fury in the MCU is in 2019's Captain Marvel which will see Fury team up with Carol Danvers back in the 1990s. Shooting for the film is expected to start January 8, 2018.
