Yesterday, during his latest Q&A with his fans, filmmaker James Gunn, who became an overnight A-list director after the success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, was asked to share his thoughts on Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. He was also asked if he was offered the opportunity to direct a film in the DC Cinematic Universe, which property would he like to tackle.
“I thought there was some amazing action sequences in Man of Steel, but I haven’t seen the other two films,” Gunn shared, and then he made a surprising reveal. “I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time. I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most IF I was into making one, and it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and Johan Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”

Seeing as though Shazam is the only DC property Gunn mentioned that’s currently in the pipeline, you have to wonder if WB/New Line approached Gunn about helming the film, which will star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam and be released in April of 2019.
Also of note: Gunn was asked by another fan which female comic book character he would like to bring to the big screen. “Maybe Batgirl,” he answered. “Cassandra Cain version.”
