The magical superhero flick stands as one of the year’s most lucrative films, and fans have agreed that Doctor Strange ranks as one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe installments to date. The movie saw Benedict Cumberbatch don Stephen Strange’s red cloak as he entered the strange world of the mystic arts, and moviegoers left theaters begging for more fantastical fun. Now, the film’s screenwriter is speaking out about the future of Doctor Strange, and he’s more than willing to return to the franchise.

In an interview with The Playlist, Jon Spaihts took time to talk about his recent work on Passengers and reminisce on his Doctor Strange involvement. It was there that the writer was asked if he’s a part of the conversation surrounding the sequel. This is what the screenwriter had to say:

“I think Marvel would certainly be very receptive. Everything in Hollywood is a function of schedules, so it would be a matter of that thing coming around at a time when I can make some availability and everybody else’s timetables work out. I imagine they would be receptive to collaborating again, and I would certainly be delighted to get back for the workshop.”

Then, when Spaihts was asked what additions he’d like to see come to the franchise, the writer stressed he wanted the sorcerer’s magic to be further explored. “I don’t know that there would be just be one answer, but it would be about looking at a kind of magic, a dimension of magic,” he said.

“In different comic lines we’ve explored different threads. There’s a magic in dreams. There’s chaos magic. There’s elemental magic. There’s so many ways to talk about sorcery. I’d want to look at one of those. But it’s really about matchmaking a school of magic with a villain, an antagonist, and there’s a few amazing ones that I’d love to see him meet. That’s what it would be about.”
