Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, will be joining the cast of Supergirl this Winter for a multi-episode arc.

According to The CW, Hatcher will be playing a mysterious new role that will become the new Big Bad of Season 2. No word on whether her character will be human -- possibly Lillian Luthor's successor as the head of Cadmus, for instance -- or alien, with possible ties to the mysterious beings hunting Mon-El.

Hatcher's Lois & Clark co-star, Dean Cain, plays Jeremiah Danvers, Kara's adoptive father who had been presumed dead until recently and has been revealed as a captive of, and apparently working with, the Cadmus Project.

Hatcher, a SAG and Golden Globe-winning actress, most recently appeared opposite Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon in a recurring role on NBC's comedy series The Odd Couple. Besides Lois & Clark and a lengthy run as the lad on ABC's Desperate Housewives, Hatcher has appeared in films like Soapdish, The Big Picture, and Tomorrow Never Dies. She was also a student at Le Cordon Bleu and a New York Times-bestselling author. She also has more than two decades of charity work behind her, even speaking at the U.N. as part of Ending Violence Against Women.

"No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all time favorite Lois Lane," said Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kresiberg. "To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, Greg [Berlanti], and the fans."

Even before Cain came to Supergirl, Berlanti and Kreisberg had established the practice of allowing '90s fan favorites a return to DC Universe greatness when they cast John Wesley Shipp, star of 1990's The Flash, on The CW's revival of the DC superhero property. He was later joined by Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, reprising his 1990s role as The Trickster, as well as Amanda Pays reprising her role as Dr. Tina McGee.

Before the current crop of super-shows, Hatcher played Lois Lane's mother on Smallville -- ironically a show on which Dean Cain played a villain.
