If you thought Inuyasha was a thing of the past, then you better think again. The supernatural series was a staple for shonen lovers back in the early 2000s, and it looks like Japan is wanting to bring the half-demon back into full-blown popularity. In the most recent issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday, the publication announced that Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha was developing a live-action play. And, now, a few details about the project have been released.

So far, no casting announcements have been made for Kagome, the heroine of Inuyasha. However, the franchise's titular protagonist has already been accounted for. Yutaka Kyan will play the white-haired warrior, and J-Rock fans will be familiar with the actor as he's a member o the band Golden Bomber.

In the past, Inuyasha has received other live-action plays in the past. Starting in April 2000, an adaptation ran until May all across Japan before a second run of the play began in 2001.

If you want to learn more about Inuyasha, then you can check out Viz Media's synopsis for the series below:

"After falling into an old well and into ancient Japan, Kagome discovers that her destiny is linked to the dog-like half demon called Inuyasha! As Kagome learns more about her connection to the past and to Inuyasha, she comes into conflict with the terrible demons that are drawn to the Shikon Jewel, including Inuyasha's own half brother, Sesshomaru. Finding the shards of the Shikon Jewel is going to require powerful magic, strange allies, and a strong heart. Kagome's got plenty of heart, but she's going to need Inuyasha's help for the rest of it, and he may not be so willing to lend a hand!"

At its core, the anime follows half-human, half-demon boy named Inuyasha and a teenager from Tokyo called Kagome. The latter is transported from modern-day Tokyo to the past after falling into her family's shrine, and she is bombarded by demons. It turns out the girl carries a magical item known as the Shikon Jewel in her body since she is the reincarnation of a powerful priest. The demons want its power, but Inuyasha manages to stop the hoard from killing Kagome, but the feat managed to shattered the Shikon Jewel.

Inuyasha then follows the mismatched couple as they go head-to-head and work together to find all the missing jewel shards. While the anime has aged over the years, the series still ranks as one of the highest-rated amongst Japanese and American fans.
