Horizon Zero Dawn‘s first expansion, The Frozen Wilds, finally got a release date this morning. Guerrilla community manager Jeroen Roding chimed in on the official PlayStation Blog to announce that The Frozen Wilds will launch on November 7. “Set in icy territories to the north, this new chapter of Aloy’s journey adds a new area to explore, new mysteries to uncover and new, highly lethal machines to take on.”

Roding stated that we’d hear additional information a little closer to launch, and didn’t have much else to divulge in the post. A quick glance at the PlayStation Store did yield a little more information, however. The Frozen Wilds will cost $19.99, while PlayStation Plus members can snag it for 25% off at $14.99.
“Beyond the northern mountains, the borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare enter to survive the extremes. But now this frozen wilderness harbors a new threat, and for Aloy, a new mystery โ one she’s determined to solve.
“The Frozen Wilds contains additional content for Horizon Zero Dawn, including new storylines, characters and experiences in a beautiful but unforgiving new area.”
- Uncover a compelling new story.
- Explore a brand new area
- Face new machines.
- To use this download, you must own Horizon Zero Dawn (sold separately).
- Enhanced for PS4 Pro with dynamic 4K gaming, improved graphics and environments, and High Dynamic Range visuals.
At the time The Frozen Wilds is the only expansion or DLC content that we know of. When Horizon Zero Dawn launched, it did so without the addition of a season pass or expansion pass, and so we’re not sure how many expansions Guerrilla is planning to roll out. Horizon was a smash hit, though, and will no doubt step back into the spotlight when all of the yearly award shows come around, so we expect additional expansions in the future. Stay tuned to WWG for more.
