Production has officially begun on Glass, the much-anticipated sequel to Unbreakable and Split.

M. Night Shyamalan, who is returning to direct the picture, has provided several updates about Glass on his Twitter. Last night, he announced that he's "hoping for the best" with the project, after undergoing an "incredible" week of rehearsals.

The director then kicked off filming with a photo of the film's slate, which you can check out below.

In the caption, Shyamalan proclaimed that the film is "seventeen years in the making" - something that audiences have certainly felt. The ending of Split took plenty by surprise earlier this year, when it was revealed to be a secret sequel to 2000's Unbreakable.

Glass will unite the characters under one roof, so to speak, with David Dunn (Bruce Willis) pursuing Kevin Wendell Crumb/The Beast (James McAvoy). What both men don't know, however, is that Elijah Prince/Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) has been orchestrating events related to both men.

In addition to Willis, Jackson, and McAvoy, the franchise's returning cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, who played Crumb's lone surviving captor in Split. Glass will also reportedly include appearances from Sarah Paulson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard.

Glass does not currently have an official release date, but it is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2019.
