Spoilers for Justice League below!
When the DC Extended Universe team-up film made its debut last week, many were surprised to see a brief cameo from a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The alien-like Lantern appears in the film’s “History Lesson”, where he is shown joining the Amazons, Atlanteans, and humans in their fight against Steppenwolf (Ciran Hinds).
Seeing as he’s only in the film for a few brief shots, some weren’t able to clearly identify the Lantern, while others even suggested that two Lanterns were actually in the film. But a few fans have helped set the record straight, confirming that the Lantern is Yalan Gur.
OTHER: In case there was still any doubt about who THAT was in the History Lesson… from DC_Cinematic
If you’re unfamiliar with Yalan Gur, who first made his debut in 1991’s Green Lantern #19, you probably aren’t alone. Yalan Gur existed amongst the Corps over two thousand years ago, where he served as the protector of Space Sector 2814.
After the Yellow Impurity in his Lantern ring was almost used against him, the Oans decided to remove it altogether. But in the process, Yalan grew corrupt, and began terrorizing his home sector. He ultimately was stopped by the Guardians of the Universe, dying from his wounds.
As Justice League fans know, Yalan Gur’s fate in the DCEU is pretty different. He does end up dying at the hands of Steppenwolf, causing his ring to fly off and find a new owner.
So, who is that new owner of Yalan Gur’s ring? It’s just too early to tell, especially with the battle taking place so far in the past. But here’s hoping that Green Lantern Corps can hopefully provide some sort of answer.
Justice League is now playing in theaters. The film will be followed in the DC Extended Universe by Aquaman on December 21, 2018, Wonder Woman 2 on November 1, 2019, Shazam on April 5, 2019, Cyborg in 2020, and Green Lantern Corps in 2020.
