Fullmetal Alchemist fans, it is time you marked your calendars. The beloved franchise may have kept quiet the past few years, but that is all about to change. Thanks to Warner Bros. Japan, the first live-action take on Fullmetal Alchemist is slated to hit theaters this year. Now, the folks behind the film are gifting fans with a huge update, leaving fans to learn the project’s exact release date.
Just in time for the holidays, Fullmetal Alchemist’s live-action film is set to hit theaters on December 1st. The news was made official over on the film’s official Twitter page, and the studio had this to say about the announcement: “The opening day of the movie "FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST" will be decided on December 1st.”
Pretty straightforward, right? And, to make things better, Fullmetal Alchemist gave fans yet another treat along with the premiere date.
Over on Twitter, the film also shared the first character image of Alphonse Elric. The younger brother has been notably absent in the film’s promotions thus far as he was only briefly seen in its trailer. Now, fans can get a close-up look at the armored boy. In the picture, fans can hardly tell the character was brought to life solely through CGI effects. On the other hand, Edward Elric will be played in real-life by actor Ryosuke Yamada.
If you are not familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist, then you have plenty of time to watch the anime before its live-action film arrives. The series follows brothers Edward and Alphonse after their mother tragically passes. They attempt to use alchemy to resurrect her, but the attempt takes Edward’s arm and leg - and it takes Alphonse’s entire body. Determined to get their bodies restored, Edward and Alphonse try to become State Alchemists so they can find the location of a powerful item known as the Philosopher’s Stone. But their journey ultimately leads them into a seedy world of government corruption and mass genocide.
