‘Dragon Ball Super’ Just Made An Unexpected Piccolo Throwback

If you ask Piccolo fans how the Namekian is treated in Dragon Ball Super, you won't get too many enthusiastic responses. The anime makes no apologies for its focus on Goku, but it did just give Piccolo a rather surprising throwback. And, as you might have guessed, anime fans are getting emotional over the moment.

In the latest episode of Dragon Ball Super, fans watched as Gohan and Piccolo went against the Namekians of Universe 6. Saoneru and Pirina stunned the duo after they revealed they had merged with many of their Namekian brethren, and Piccolo was shaken by the secret. When the Universe 7 hero tried to shoot off a Special Beam Canon, Piccolo's wavering spirit made his attack ineffective and let his opponents shoot a massive energy attack his way.

However, Piccolo was not about the take the hit alone, and it was not Gohan who helped him regain his senses.

After being targeted, Piccolo woke up sprawled in his inner consciousness. When the hero opened his eyes, the dark room zoomed out to reveal two men standing beside Piccolo. The shadowy outlines were none other than Nail and Kami, and the latter is the one who helped Piccolo return to the real world after Gohan blocked the attack meant for his mentor.

If you are have trouble recalling Nail and Kami, then you should know the Namekians are the two who fused with Piccolo. Back in Dragon Ball Z, Nail was introduced as a lone warrior Namekian who acted as the bodyguard of the Grand Elder Guru. He was considered to be the strongest Namekian alive when Freeza launched his attack on Namek, and he chose to fuse with Piccolo after being beaten on his home turf.

As for Kami, the elder Namekian was present since the original Dragon Ball anime, but he came to help Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z. After the 'Freeza' saga, Kami agreed to fuse with Piccolo after the latter had redeemed himself. Kami helped the fighter take on Cell whilst Dende was recruited by Goku to become Earth's new Kami.
