Assassination Classroom Announces Return in 2026

What if your school teacher was an infinitely powerful alien who was dead set on destroying the world and you, and your class, were the only ones who could stop them? This is the main question of the anime franchise known as Assassination Classroom. Originally released as a manga in 2012 by creator Yusei Matsui, the shonen franchise would go on to receive an anime adaptation, movies, live-action films, video games, and a spin-off series. While the original anime ended in 2016, the series will return next year to continue the story of Koro-sensei and his class, who want nothing more than to put their teacher six feet under.

Assassination Classroom The Movie: Everyone’s Time will release in Japanese theaters on March 20th, 2026. Rather than simply taking old episodes and footage to bring Koro-sensei and his class to the big screen, this upcoming movie will be an entirely original story for the franchise. The film will bring back the original cast to reprise their roles, though it has yet to be determined if this will be a direct sequel and/or story that takes place within the anime’s episodes. Unfortunately, no word has been revealed regarding the film making its way to North America, but we have to imagine it will only be a matter of time. The director of the Assassination Classroom movie, Masaki Kitamura, discussed the shonen universe’s return, vowing to honor the spirit of the original anime, “I am truly happy to be able to bring this classroom back to everyone who has loved “Assassination Classroom” for so long. I worked hard to preserve the atmosphere that Director Kishi has cherished, while adding a new dimension and a powerful impact that is unique to the theatrical version. I would be gratified if, after watching the film, you think, “I really loved Assassination Classroom.”

Screenwriter Makoto Uezu also shared their thoughts on Assassination Classroom’s big comeback in 2026, “This was when I was still a rising star as a screenwriter. I remember being incredibly honored and nervous to be entrusted with the important role of series composition for a Weekly Shonen Jump work. I was fully prepared, full of energy, and had a perfect collaboration system with Matsui Yusei, and the Assassination Classroom project was a great success. However, of course, it was also made within constraints, so I felt like I wanted to do this and that too. Ten years have passed since then, and yes, I’m going to do this and that too! This is a movie that will complete the anime Assassination Classroom. Don’t worry, it’s a completely new work!”

Finally, character designer Aya Hinoue discussed how they feel like the upcoming film should be considered a ‘class reunion,’ “As a fan, I never thought that the stories I wanted to see in the anime back then would be made into an anime after 10 years. For those who have only recently discovered Assassination Classroom, as well as those who watched it 10 years ago, please think of it as a class reunion and come to the theater to meet everyone from Class E and Koro-sensei.”
