'Boruto' Just Taught Its Heroes A Tough 'Naruto' Lesson

It's that time of the year for Boruto Uzumaki and his friends. After slogging away at the Ninja Academy, the group is finally being tested to see if they're ready to graduate, but the gang did not expect the test to be so hard. With Kakashi overseeing the exam, Boruto's friends are in above their heads, and they just got one painful Naruto lesson shoved at them.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations released its 36th episode today, and the update saw the boy's class begin their practical exam. Boruto learned he had to compete with his friends to steal a singular bell from Kakashi whilst the former Hokage was protected by Konohamaru, Shino, and Anko. So, when Boruto bypassed his friends to corner Kakashi, the boy learned the grey-haired ninja hadn't been joking earlier.

"We're not going to hold back either, so come at us with intent to kill. Show us your resolve," Kakashi had told Boruto before the exam began before adding, "There's no way I'll lose to school kids who just pal around and refuse to grow up."

As Kakashi and Boruto fought, the older ninja did admit the boy had genius-like talent. However, Naruto's mentor said skills are not enough when it comes to being a ninja. Having been a genius himself, Kakashi says Boruto lacks "one decisive element" a ninja needs, but the boy wasn't hearing it.

"You excel all around and are a cut above the rest. You have the skills of a genin… No, you have the skill level of a chunin. And that's the reason why this is the end of the line for you," Kakashi stressed before Boruto went in for another attack.

Again and again, Kakashi tried to drill an important lesson into Boruto without success. The ninja-in-training was cocky about his skills and laissez faire with how he approached Kakashi's skill. Naruto learned the hard way that Kakashi isn't a ninja one to underestimate, but Boruto refused to fully acknowledge the seriousness of his examination.

Boruto's biggest sin in Kakashi's eyes is that he treats the ninja way as a game, and the Sixth Hokage will not let that slide. If Naruto's son cannot prove his resolve, Kakashi will have no problems giving Boruto hell moving forward, but fans shouldn't be too worried. Audiences already know Boruto will get his ninja headband before long. Now, it is just a matter of how Boruto goes about convincing Kakashi to pass him and his friends.
