Code Geass Season 3 May Already Be In Production

If you’ve been disconnected from the anime fandom for sometime, then there’s a lot to catch up on. Naruto Shippuden came to an end last month. On Saturday, Attack on Titan returned with its long-awaited second season. Funimation will soon bring the anime feature Your Name to theaters in the U.S. And, oh yeah – a third season of Code Geass has been announced.

Last year, news broke that Sunrise had been tasked with making a third season of Code Geass following its end back in 2008 with Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. Fans were stunned to see the franchise revived given how permanent its second season ended. However, in true anime style, there are few characters who stay down (or dead) for long – and Code Geass may resurrect its fallen lead much sooner than expected.

Not long ago, netizens spotted a PV trailer for Code Geass and its upcoming recap film trilogy. Sunrise confirmed it would release three anime features which summarize the entirety of Code Geass prior to the anime’s comeback, and the PV showed revamp images from the franchise’s past. A series of captions were then shown between the clips, hyping fans for the future of Code Geass.

However, one of these captions has caught the attention of fans. Halfway through the PV, a slide appears which reads, “Code Geass‘ third chapter is in production. 2017 is the start of a new age!” Netizens are now beginning to speculate that work is already being done on Code Geass and its new season, Lelouch of the Resurrection.

So far, there is no word confirming the status of the anime or its films. Fans were told last year that the franchise’s first recap film would debut sometime in 2017. As for its anime comeback, there is no telling when it may air. Fans think the new season may air in early 2018 to give Sunrise time to roll out its compilation films.

If you have not caught up on all things Code Geass, then you still have time. The series is a long one, but it’s a well-received one. Aside from the first two seasons, there is another spin-off OVA series which fans were gifted recently.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled is a five-part miniseries that takes place between the two full seasons. Funimation has plans to release the OVA series on home video early next year, so fans will be able to binge it before Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection rears its head.
